About University

Lewis University is a private, Catholic university located in Romeoville, Illinois, approximately 35 miles southwest of Chicago. Established in 1932 by the Chicago Archdiocese and Bishop Bernard J. Sheil, it began as the Holy Name Technical School, emphasizing aviation technology—a focus that continues today through its esteemed Department of Aviation and Transportation Studies . Named after philanthropist Frank J. Lewis, the university has evolved into a comprehensive institution offering a wide array of academic programs.

Today, Lewis University enrolls around 6,600 students and offers over 35 graduate programs across various disciplines, including business, nursing, criminal justice, computer science, and education . The university is organized into several colleges: the College of Aviation, Science and Technology; College of Business; College of Education and Social Sciences; College of Humanities, Fine Arts and Communications; College of Nursing and Health Sciences; and the School of Graduate, Professional and Continuing Education .

The 410-acre campus is recognized as an arboretum, featuring over 2,400 trees and more than 140 varieties, offering a serene and picturesque environment for learning . Lewis University fosters a vibrant campus life with numerous student organizations, cultural events, and NCAA Division II athletic programs, known as the Flyers.
